The Supra is Possibly Back

Posted by

Nothing is official yet so don't get your hopes up, but things do certainly seem to be in motion. We're unsure what exactly, but something big is being prepared. The old Supra was never officially sold in the U.S. or in Europe, so it's no surprise that Toyota had to trademark the name. They first did this in the U.S. back in 2014, and the recent filing for the Supra trademark name for Europe as well could indicate that we're about to see the brand-new car.

If the internet and rumors are anything to go by, then the Supra will be somewhat similar to the Toyota FT-1 concept we saw a while back. You'll agree with us on this one, that's no bad thing. Not only did it look the business but it certainly meant it. There's also some speculation that the Supra will be a joint venture between Toyota and BMW. Although the partnership has been confirmed and it is for a smaller sporty vehicle, there's no guarantee that it will be the Supra. We do have to say, a car with a Supra badge developed by Toyota and BMW does sound like a mighty proposition. Where do we sign up?

We have to keep a cool head however. Lots of times manufacturers will only trademark names as a safety precaution and with no official statements, we're still at least a year off the new vehicle (if there is one of course). The earliest we can expect to see the car is late 2017, but we're sure 2016 will bring a lot more information regarding this mystery car.
